Perfect Margarita
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 shot simple syrup
- 1 shot Tequila
- 1 shot fresh-squeezed lemon/lime juice (see instructions)
- 1/2 shot Grand Marnier (or Gran Gala/Triple Sec)
- Lemon and lime rind chunks
- Ice
- Margarita salt (if desired)
- To make the simple syrup: Mix sugar and water in a small sauce pan.
- Bring to a gentle boil, about 5-10 minutes.
- Once the sugar has dissolved in the water, turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
- To prepare citrus: Squeeze the juice from 6 lemons and 6 limes into a container.
- Cut up rinds into small chunks (approximately 8 chunks to one lime and 16 chunks to one lemon).
- To make one margarita: Put a handful of ice and 3 lemon rind chunks and 3 lime rind chunks into a cocktail shaker or pint glass.
- Muddle using a muddler.
- Pour in one shot each of simple syrup, Tequila, lemon/lime juice and 1/2 shot Grand Marnier.
- Stir well.
- Wipe a lemon rind around the rim of a glass and dip it in salt.
- Put a handful of ice in the glass and pour in the margarita mixture.
- Drink.
- Repeat.
