Barbecue Chili Rubbed Steak Recipe
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp each minced fresh oregano and salt
- 1/2 tsp each garlic pwdr and chili pwdr pepper
- 2/3 c. balsamic vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. each finely chopped gingerroot and soy sauce
- 2 tsp honey
- 6 x green onions
- 12 ounce mushrooms
- 1 x sweet yellow or possibly red pepper seeded and cut into chunks
- 4 x 1-inch thick steaks such as new york striploin or possibly t-bone extra virgin olive oil
- In small bowl, stir together paprika, oregano, salt, garlic and chili pwdr and generous grinding of pepper; set aside.
- In small saucepan, bring vinegar to boil; boil till reduced by half, about 3 min.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in ginger, soy sauce and honey.
- Set aside.
- Slice white part of green onions into 5 cm (2-inch) pcs.
- Finely chop green part of 2 green onions and set aside.
- Onto skewers, thread mushrooms randomly with white part of green onions and yellow pepper; brush lightly with extra virgin olive oil.
- Rub both sides of steaks with spice mix.
- Place steaks over high heat on barbecue; cook for 2 min.
- Add in vegetable skewers; cook, turning once and turning and basting frequently with vinegar mix, for 5 to 8 min or possibly till mushrooms are tender and steak is rare or possibly medium rare.
- To serve, place steaks on dinner plates.
- Remove vegetables from skewers and scatter over top.
- Sprinkle with reserved minced green onions.
- (If you wish, steaks can also be sliced and served with vegetables on the side.)
