Simple Homemade Fudge
- 3 cup Milk chocolate chips (see note below)
- 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk (this is standard size)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt (I usually omit this step, but you may want it in your batch)
- 1 Optional: Crushed peppermint candies, coconut flakes, peanut butter, etc, for additional flavor. See note below.
- 1 Waxed paper
- Note: adding things like peppermint candies, coconut, peanut butter, etc, add more fun and flavor to your fudge.
- If you do peppermint candies, try addinng a few drops of peppermint extract for more flavor.
- Pecans are a good choice, too.
- Add as little or as much as you like.
- You can use milk chocolate, white chocolate, or dark chocolate for this.
- I'm just a sucker for milk chocolate!
- Have a 8 or 9 inch pan out, to start.
- Place waxed paper inside, a have it covering the sides.
- Doing this first will allow you to be ready when you have to pour the melted fudge.
- Place first three ingredients, and salt, (if desired) in a medium saucepan.
- Heat on medium low.
- Let sit for about 5-10 seconds before stirring.
- Keep stirring.
- You can't let the chocolate sit there, or else it will burn.
- This is the hardest part, as you will be giving your arm quite a workout.
- Keep stirring, making sure to scrape chocolate off of the bottom and sides of the pan.
- Continue until nearly melted.
- Add optional item(s), if desired.
- Stir until fully incorporated.
- Hopefully, you already have the paper and pan situated, so pour the mixture into it, evening it out.
- Be sure to lick that pan and spatula clean.
- You can't let something as good as this go to waste, can you?
- Sprinkle optional ingredients, if desired, on top for decoration.
- Place pan in the fridge for 1-2 hours, or in the freezer for 20-30 minutes, to set.
- Once set, cut into squares, and place in airtight container in the fridge.
- Or in your mouth.
- Whichever.
