Whole Meal French Onion Soup
- 3 red onions, sliced
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
- 10 beef bouillon cubes
- 8 c. boiling water
- 1/3 c. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 loaf French bread, sliced
- 10 slices Provolone cheese
- Saute onions in margarine in soup pot until translucent and light brown.
- Sprinkle with flour; mix well.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Dissolve bouillon in water.
- Pour over onion mixture. Add Worcestershire sauce.
- Let stand for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Ladle into ovenproof soup mugs.
- Top each with 1 slice of bread; turn to soak both sides.
- Place 1 slice of cheese over bread.
- Bake at 450u0b0 for 12 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Yield:
- 8 servings.
