Fresh Tomato-Basil Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Land O Lakes Butter
- 1 medium (1/2 cup) onion, finely chopped
- 4 teaspoons finely chopped fresh garlic
- 3 medium (2 1/2 cups) tomatoes, seeded, chopped
- 2 tablespoons Italian-style tomato paste
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves*
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- Melt butter in 2-quart saucepan until sizzling; add onion and garlic.
- Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until onion is softened.
- Add tomatoes, tomato paste, 2 tablespoons basil and salt; continue cooking 1-2 minute or suntil mixture comes to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, 10-12 minutes or until tomatoes are softened.
- Remove from heat; stir in remaining basil.
- Spoon sauce over hot cooked linguine, angel hair (capellini) pasta or fettuccine.
- *Substitute 1 tablespoon dried basil leaves.
