Orange Button Cookies
- 1/2 cup Land O Lakes Butter, softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 Land O Lakes Egg
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 4 drops yellow food color
- 2 drops red food color
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 tablespoons mini real semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup mini real semi-sweet chocolate chips or white baking chips
- 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
- Combine butter, sugar and brown sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.
- Add egg, orange zest, orange juice and food colors; continue beating until well mixed.
- Add flour and baking powder; beat at low speed until well mixed.
- Divide dough in half; shape each half on lightly floured surface into 8-inch log.
- Wrap each in waxed paper.
- Refrigerate 2-3 hours or until very firm.
- Heat oven to 400F.
- Cut logs into 1/4-inch slices with sharp knife.
- Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Place 4 mini chocolate chips upside-down onto each cookie to resemble holes in buttons.
- Bake 6-7 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
- Remove to cooling rack.
- Cool completely.
- Place 1/4 cup chocolate chips and oil in bowl.
- Microwave, stirring every 30 seconds, 60-90 seconds or until melted.
- Spoon melted chocolate into resealable plastic food bag; cut off 1 very small corner of bag.
- Pipe chocolate onto cookies in X-shape to connect button holes.
