Sandra's Best Hungarian Goulash Recipe

  1. Thinly coat Dutch oven with oil.
  2. Brown bacon till fat melts but bacon is not yet crisp.
  3. Remove from pan.
  4. Put flour, paprika, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper into large bag.
  5. Place beef in bag, shake well.
  6. Brown beef in bacon fat.
  7. Add in onions, tomatoes, pepper, potatoes, tomato paste and chicken stock.
  8. Lay bacon strips on top.
  9. Cover.
  10. Bake 325 degrees 1 1/2 - 2 hrs.
  11. After 1 hour, stir and add in water if necessary.
  12. Serve with well cooked cabbage seasoned with brown sugar and a healthy pinch of caraway seeds.
  13. Hard bread and pickled beets go well with this.
  14. 6-8 servings.
