Double Cheese Breakfast Strata

  1. For each 8-serving strata: Crumble 1 lb.
  2. (450 g) sausage into large nonstick skillet on medium-high heat; cook 3 to 5 min.
  3. or until done, stirring frequently to break up sausage.
  4. Add 3 cups (750 mL) mushrooms, 1/2 cup (125 mL) each red peppers, green peppers and onions, and 1 tsp.
  5. (5 mL) thyme; cook 3 to 5 min.
  6. or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring frequently.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Stir in 1/3 cup (75 mL) Cheez Whiz.
  9. Set aside to cool slightly.
  10. Place 1-1/2 qt.
  11. bread in half-size 2-inch hotel pan or in 13x9-inch baking dish lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
  12. Top with 1/3 cup (75 mL) shredded cheese and sausage mixture.
  13. Whisk 6 eggs, 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) milk and 1/3 cup (75 mL) Cheez Whiz until well blended; pour over sausage mixture.
  14. Cover with foil.
  15. Refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight.
  16. Bring to room temperature before baking.
  17. Bake, covered, in 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) standard oven 40 to 50 min.
  18. or until centre is set.
  19. Remove foil; top with 1/3 cup (75 mL) shredded cheese.
  20. Broil 2 to 3 min.
  21. or until cheese is melted.
  22. Let stand 5 min.
  23. before serving.
