Broiled Fig and Gorgonzola Finger Sandwiches

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Brush broth sides of the bread slices with olive oil and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
  4. Turn the bread slices over and bake for another 5 minutes, or until toasted.
  5. Remove from the oven and cool.
  6. Preheat the broiler to high.
  7. Place each of the fig halves on a slice of toasted bread.
  8. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Top with 1 ounce of crumbled gorgonzola.
  10. Place on a baking sheet.
  11. Broil the fig and gorgonzola sandwiches for 1 minute, or just until the cheese begins to melt.
  12. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with toasted walnuts.
  13. Top each sandwich with another slice of bread.
  14. Serve.
