Brazilian Street Cart Dog
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Pinch salt
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 white onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- Half 8-ounce can chopped stewed tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Sugar
- 2 hot dog buns
- 2 cooked hot dogs
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- Kettle potato chips, crushed
- In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt and crushed garlic, and set aside in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet set over medium heat and saute the minced garlic, onions and bell peppers.
- Add the tomatoes and oregano, stir and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Add salt, pepper and sugar to taste (just a bit of sugar for a hint of sweetness).
- Spread some of the mayonnaise mixture in the buns and place a hot dog in each.
- Then top the dogs with the tomato mixture, shredded cheese and some crushed chips to finish.
- Serve hot.
