Twisted Egg Bread

  1. Mix yeast, water, and 1 T sugar together.
  2. Let sit 10-15 min until bubbly.
  3. Add sugar, honey, butter, and eggs.
  4. Gradually stir in flour.
  5. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, turn once to cover with grease.
  7. Let rise 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down; divide into ninths.
  9. Form each piece into a rope 18 inches long.
  10. Braid 3 together.
  11. Tuck ends and place each in a greased, cornmeal coated bread pan (or on a cookie sheet).
  12. Let rise one hour.
  13. Brush with egg yolk, then sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
  14. Bake 350F for 30 minutes.
