French Bread
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 1/2 c. very warm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening (melted) or Mazola oil
- 4 c. flour
- Dissolve
- yeast
- in
- 1/2
- of
- the water plus 1 teaspoon sugar. In
- largetowl,
- dissolve sugar and salt in remaining water. Add
- Mazola
- and yeast.
- Mix.
- Add flour.
- Place dough in greased bowl
- and
- set in warm water.
- Work dough every 10 minutestor
- 5 consecutive
- times.
- Turntough onto floured board and
- divide into
- 2
- balls.
- Let rest 10 minutes.
- Roll each piece
- out
- and roll
- up as for jelly roll.
- Seal edges. Place on
- a greased cookie sheet and score diagonally 6 times. Let rise 1 1/2 hours. Bake in 400u0b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Brush withtelted butter.
- This
- makes 2 loaves and is delicious as garlic bread.
