Rolled Sugar Cookies
- 1 c. butter, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 lg. egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- decorator sugar crystals
- Beat butter at medium speed of electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, beating well.
- Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
- Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture; beating until just blended.
- Shape into a ball; cover and chill for 1 1/2 hours.
- Divide dough into thirds.
- Work with 1 portion of dough at a time, storing remaining dough in refrigerator.
- Roll each portion to 1/4 in. thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut with cookie cutters to desired shapes. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle with sugar crystals. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until edges are slightly brown.
- Let cookies cool slightly on cookie sheets then remove to wire racks.
