Rolled Sugar Cookies

  1. Beat butter at medium speed of electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, beating well.
  2. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture; beating until just blended.
  4. Shape into a ball; cover and chill for 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Divide dough into thirds.
  6. Work with 1 portion of dough at a time, storing remaining dough in refrigerator.
  7. Roll each portion to 1/4 in. thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Cut with cookie cutters to desired shapes. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  9. Sprinkle with sugar crystals. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until edges are slightly brown.
  10. Let cookies cool slightly on cookie sheets then remove to wire racks.
