New Year's Day Bloody Mary Soup
- 4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 4 each celery ribs, minced
- 1 medium sweet red bell peppers seeded, cored and minced
- 1 each jalapeno pepper seeded and minced
- 2 cups tomatoes, canned drained
- 4 cups tomato slice
- 1 each limes grated zest only
- 3 tablespoons horseradish prepared
- 1 x salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup vodka
- 1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
- 2 each limes juiced
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 x leaf sprigs for garnish
- 1 x limes slices for garnish
- A new twist on the conventional "hair of the dog bloody mary" on New Year's Day.
- Melt the butter in a heavy large pan over low heat.
- Add the celery, red pepper and jalapeno pepper.
- Cover the pot and sweat the vegetables over low heat until very soft, about 30 minutes.
- Stir in the tomatoes, tomato juice, lime zest, horseradish, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook over medium heat 5 minutes.
- Process the soup in a food processor fitted with a steel blade or a blender until smooth.
- Return to the pan and stir in the vodka, caraway seeds, lime juice and Worcestershire.
- Heat until hot.
- Ladle the soup into mugs and garnish with dill sprigs and lime slices.
