Granny Howell's Prize Winning Boiled Custard Recipe
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 9 Large eggs, beaten
- 3 quarts. rich lowfat milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 c. heavy cream
- Combine Large eggs and sugar.
- Slowly add in lowfat milk.
- Stir till well blended.
- Put in top of double boiler over medium heat, cook custard mix till mix begins to thicken (to consistency of meat gravy).
- Remove from heat and let cold.
- Meanwhile, whip cream till hard peaks form.
- Mix in vanilla.
- Fold into cool custard mix.
- Refrigeratebefore serving.
- A topping of baked meringue or possibly a sprinkle of nutmeg may be added for special occasions.
- Eight ounces Cold Whip may be used instead of whipped cream.
- Yield: about 1 gallon.
