Snickers Candy Bar Cake III

  1. In a double-boiler, add the cut up Snickers bars, water and peanut butter.
  2. Heat gently, stirring until melted and blended together.
  3. Set aside to cool.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350F (180C).
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.
  6. Set aside.
  7. In a large bowl, cream butter add sugar together and beat until creamy and fluffy.
  8. Beat in 4 egg yolks and add the vanilla; beat in the cooled candy bar mix, mixing until smooth.
  9. Beat in 1/4 cup of the buttermilk.
  10. Stir in the flour mix alternately with the remaining 1 cup buttermilk; mix only until blended.
  11. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, fold in to the batter.
  12. Divide the batter evenly between 2 greased and floured 9 inch square cake pans.
  13. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes.
  14. Cool in pans on rack for 5 minutes, turn out, and finish cooling on rack.
