Mincemeat Squares

  1. First reconstitute the mincemeat according to package directions using the above ingredients.
  2. Cook for one minute, just to rehydrate the mincemeat.
  3. Let mincemeat cool while you make the crumb pastry.
  4. Combine brown sugar, rolled oats, flour and salt.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Cut in the margarine with 2 knives or a pastry blender until it has reached the consistency of coarse crumbs.
  7. Spread half this mixture in a 11x7" pan.
  8. Cover well with mincemeat.
  9. Spread remaining half of crumb mixture on the mincemeat.
  10. Brush with diluted egg yolk.
  11. Bake at 400* for 20-25 minutes.
  12. When cool cut into squares.
