Western Ranch Biscuits Recipe
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. hot water
- 2 c. hot chicken or possibly beef broth
- 1/2 c. powdered lowfat milk
- 1/4 c. butter or possibly hamburger grease
- 1/4 c. honey
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1 c. wheat germ
- 2 c. cracked wheat
- 4 to 5 c. whole wheat flour
- In small bowl, dissolve yeast in hot water.
- In large bowl combine broth, powdered lowfat milk, butter, honey, egg and salt.
- Add in yeast-water and mix well.
- Stir in flour, cornmeal, wheat germ and cracked wheat.
- Mix well.
- Add in whole wheat flour, 1/2 c. at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Knead in the final amounts of flour by hand and continue kneading for 4 to 5 min till dough is not sticky.
- Pat or possibly roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into bone shapes.
- Place on a greased baking sheet, cover lightly, and let set 20 min.
- Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 min.
- Turn off heat and leave in oven several hrs or possibly overnight.
- Makes about 3 1/2 pounds of dog bones.
