Cranberry, Cherry and Walnut Marmalade

  1. Add sugar, water, port (or wine), cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium nonreactive saucepan, bring to a boil.
  2. Stir in cherries and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in cranberries, return to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer until about half the cranberries pop, 10 to 12 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat.
  6. Add walnuts and orange zest, and stir well.
  7. Let cool completely.
  8. (The marmalade will thicken as it cools.)
  9. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
