Sausage and Apple Stuffing

  2. Spread bread cubes on large cookie sheets; place in oven at 250F for 10 minutes, remove from oven; reserve.

  4. Cut sausage into thick slices.
  5. Brown 5 minutes on each side in a medium-size skillet, then break into small pieces.
  6. Cook 1 minute longer or until no trace of pink remains.
  7. Combine with bread cubes in a large bowl.

  9. Pour off drippings from skillet.
  10. Measure; return 2 tablespoons.
  11. Add onions, and saute until tender.
  12. Stir in water and apples, heat to boiling.
  13. Pour over sausage mixture, add salt.
  14. Toss lightly until evenly moist.
