Choco Nut Caramel Bars Recipe
- 1 (11 1/2 ounce.) pkg. Nestle lowfat milk chocolate morsels (divide in half)
- 2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
- 1 (14 ounce.) pkg. caramels
- 5 tbsp. butter
- 2 tbsp. water
- 1 1/2 c. minced pecans
- Line 8 inch square pan with foil before beginning.
- STEP 1: Heat one half of the chocolate morsels over warm (NOT BOILING) water along with 1 Tbsp.
- shortening.
- Stir over low heat till morsels heat and mix is smooth.
- Remove from heat.
- Pour into 8 inch pan and spread proportionately.
- Chill till hard (about 20 min.)
- STEP 2: Combine over boiling water the caramels, butter and 2 Tbsp.
- water.r Stir till caramels are smooth and melted.
- Stir in nuts till well blended.
- Pour on top of chocolate layer and spread proportionately.
- Chill till hard (about 30 min).
- REPEAT STEP ONE.
- STEP 3: After spreading last layer proportionately, return to chill and refrigeratetill completely hard (about 1 hour).
- Cut in small squares.
- Keep refrigerated till ready to use.
