Beastly Bugs
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup Land O Lakes Butter, softened
- 2 Land O Lakes Eggs
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Black or red licorice laces, cut into 1-inch pieces
- Small gumdrops
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons Land O Lakes Butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
- Food color
- Heat oven to 400F.
- Combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter and eggs in bowl.
- Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.
- Add all remaining cookie ingredients; beat at low speed until well mixed.
- Stir together 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon in bowl.
- Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1 1/4 inch balls; roll in sugar mixture.
- Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 8-10 minutes or until set.
- Insert, immediately, 3 licorice pieces into each side of cookie for legs.
- Cool completely.
- Combine powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons butter and vanilla in bowl.
- Beat at medium speed, gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency.
- Tint with food color, if desired.
- Frost cooled cookies.
- Place gumdrop on cookie to form head.
- Cut additional 1/8-inch pieces of licorice; place on frosting for spots.
