Beastly Bugs

  1. Heat oven to 400F.
  2. Combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter and eggs in bowl.
  3. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.
  4. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  5. Stir together 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon in bowl.
  6. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1 1/4 inch balls; roll in sugar mixture.
  7. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake 8-10 minutes or until set.
  9. Insert, immediately, 3 licorice pieces into each side of cookie for legs.
  10. Cool completely.
  11. Combine powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons butter and vanilla in bowl.
  12. Beat at medium speed, gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency.
  13. Tint with food color, if desired.
  14. Frost cooled cookies.
  15. Place gumdrop on cookie to form head.
  16. Cut additional 1/8-inch pieces of licorice; place on frosting for spots.
