Hearty Meat Pasta Sauce
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons divided olive oil
- 2 cups celery, chopped
- 2 cups onions, chopped
- 6 ounces mushrooms
- 3 minced garlic cloves
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 red bell peppers, chopped
- 2 scotch bonnet peppers, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil
- 1 tablespoon ground pepper, divided
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 1 tablespoon celery seed
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 (29 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- In a large hot sauce pan, add 1 Tbsp of Olive oil, and brown ground beef and turkey, season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Put aside once browned, strain out any fat.
- Add 1 Tbsp of olive oil to large hot sauce pan.
- Add onion, celery, carrot, garlic, mushrooms, red peppers, haberno peppers.
- Stir and sautee for 2-3 minutes, until onions an celery begin to brown.
- Add tyme, rosemary, oregano, celery seed, salt and pepper.
- Mix well to incorperate all herbs and spices.
- Add browned meat, stirring well.
- Add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and paste.
- Stir to completely mix.
- Add Basil and Bay leaves.
- Bring to a boil on medium high heat.
- Reduce to a simmer for 1-2 hours.
