Spaghetti and Meatballs

  1. Sauce: In a large pot saute onion and green pepper in olive oil over medium heat until tender but not burned.
  2. Add garlic and stir until fragrant, then reduce heat to medium low and add remaining ingredients.
  3. Cover sauce and simmer while preparing meatballs.
  4. Meatballs: Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and then fold in ground beef and pork.
  5. Add beaten eggs and continue folding until thoroughly mixed.
  6. Form into 1" meatballs and then fry in small batches in vegetable oil over med-high heat in a cast iron skillet until browned and then drain on paper towels.
  7. Add all meatballs to sauce and then increase heat to a light boil stirring frequently, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours or until desired consistency.
  8. Salt, pepper, and sugar to taste prior to serving over cooked pasta.
