Good Basic Dough Recipe
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. hot water
- 1 c. lowfat milk, scalded, you want to let this cold before adding
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt (I use a little more salt)
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- Soak yeast in hot water for few min.
- Add in lowfat milk, sugar, shortening and salt to yeast.
- Add in 1 1/2 c. of flour.
- Beat well.
- Add in egg and beat well.
- Gradually add in flour to create soft dough.
- Put rest of flour on dough board and knead it in till it is smooth and pliable.
- Place it in a large greased bowl and turn over so top will be greased.
- Cover with wax paper and set where it is hot, not warm, till it doubles in size.
- Knead it down once.
- Then next time it raises.
- Make it into rolls or possibly cinnamon rolls.
- It is a small batch.
- You can double or possibly triple the measurements, everything but the sugar.
- If I triple it, I just use 2 pkgs.
