Hairy Fingers
- 12 lb almonds or 12 lb walnuts, chopped
- 12 cup breadcrumbs, toasted
- 12 cup sugar
- 12 cup orange juice
- 1 lb kadaifi, pastry
- 1 14 cups butter, melted
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 12 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease baking pan.
- Mix nuts, crumbs, sugar and orange juice.
- Divide the long threads of kadaifi pastry into 16 to 18 portions.
- On the end of each portion, place 1 heaping tablespoon of nut mixture.
- Roll up loosely.
- Place rolls side by side in pan, but not too closely.
- Pour butter over rolls and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove rolls from oven.
- While rolls are resting for 20 minutes, combine syrup ingredients in saucepan.
- Boil for 5 minutes.
- Pour syrup over rolls.
- Cover with dish towel.
- Allow syrup to absorb for 5 or 6 hours.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon.
