Rouladen Recipe
- 4 slices top beef round 1/8" thick (can use flank steak)
- 1 onion
- 4 teaspoon mustard
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 4 slices bacon
- 2 pickles
- 4 toothpicks to fasten rolled beef
- Cooing oil to fry rouladen
- Use electric skillet
- 1 pouch instant gravy mix
- Sprinkle salt and pepper on each slice of beef, spread 1 tsp.
- mustard on each.
- Place 1 slice of bacon, onion slices and pickle slices (divided proportionately for 4) on each beef slice and roll it up, the smaller end first.
- Secure with toothpicks.
- Brown in oil on all sides.
- Add in warm water.
- Cover and simmer till tender, about 1 1/2-2 hrs, adding more water, if needed.
- Prepare gravy from instant gravy mix, using broth from beef and pour over rouladen.
- Remove toothpicks from rolls.
- Let come to a boil again, stirring constantly, till thickened.
