Rouladen Recipe

  1. Sprinkle salt and pepper on each slice of beef, spread 1 tsp.
  2. mustard on each.
  3. Place 1 slice of bacon, onion slices and pickle slices (divided proportionately for 4) on each beef slice and roll it up, the smaller end first.
  4. Secure with toothpicks.
  5. Brown in oil on all sides.
  6. Add in warm water.
  7. Cover and simmer till tender, about 1 1/2-2 hrs, adding more water, if needed.
  8. Prepare gravy from instant gravy mix, using broth from beef and pour over rouladen.
  9. Remove toothpicks from rolls.
  10. Let come to a boil again, stirring constantly, till thickened.
