Spaghetti Sauce Like Grandpa Used to Make
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 quarts tomatoes
- 12 lb onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 12 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 12 lb mixed mushrooms, chopped
- 14-12 teaspoon caraway seed
- 1 dash ground cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 dash dill weed (optional)
- 1 dash black pepper (optional)
- Brown meat, onions, and garlic, stirring often to break up.
- Combine with remaining ingredients.
- Simmer for 1 hour to marry the flavors.
- Ladle over cooked spaghetti.
- Sprinkle with grated Romano cheese if desired.
- Note: the final three spices call for a dash which is further described as "small", "wee, even".
