Blackberry and Apricot Compote

  1. Halve apricots lengthwise and pit.
  2. Cut each apricot half into 4 wedges and transfer to a heatproof bowl.
  3. In a small saucepan bring water and sugar to a boil over moderate heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  4. Stir in zest and wine and simmer 5 minutes.
  5. Pour syrup over apricots and stir in blackberries.
  6. Chill mixture 20 minutes.
  7. Serve compote with macaroons.
