Oatmeal Chewies

  1. Lightly grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  2. Combine oats, 1 1/2 cups of flour, brown sugar, soda and salt; mix well.
  3. Stir in margarine; mix until well blended.
  4. Reserve 1 cup.
  5. Press remaining onto a 13 x 9-inch pan.
  6. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until light brown.
  7. Cool 10 minutes.
  8. Top with nuts and chocolate pieces.
  9. Mix caramel and 1/4 cup of flour until smooth (easier if warmed slightly).
  10. Drizzle over nuts and chocolate pieces to within 1/4 inch of pan edges.
  11. Sprinkle with reserved mixture. Bake at 350u0b0 for 18 to 22 minutes.
  12. Cool and cut.
