Best Gingerbread Recipe
- 1/2 c. butter or possibly shortening
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
- 1 c. warm water
- 1 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Cream shortening and sugar, add in beaten Large eggs.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Mix molasses and warm water together.
- Add in dry ingredients and liquid alternately, a little at a time, beating after each addition.
- Bake in 9 x 9 x 2 inch greased and floured pan, 45 min at 350 degrees.
