Cedar-Planked Southwestern Steak

  1. Immerse plank in water, placing a weight on top of plank to keep it submerged.
  2. Soak at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Meanwhile, mix sugar and seasonings; rub onto both sides of steak.
  4. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour but no longer than 2 hours.
  5. Preheat barbecue to high heat.
  6. Grill steak 2 min.
  7. on each side; remove from barbecue.
  8. Remove plank from water; brush top with oil.
  9. Top with steak.
  10. Place on grate of barbecue; cover with lid.
  11. Reduce barbecue to medium heat.
  12. Grill 15 min.
  13. or until medium doneness (160 degrees F), brushing steak with 1/4 cup of the barbecue sauce for the last 5 min.
  14. of the grilling time.
  15. Remove steak from barbecue; discard plank.
  16. Cover steak loosely with foil; let stand 5 min.
  17. Cut steak into thin slices.
  18. Serve with the remaining 1/2 cup barbecue sauce.
