Brown Bread Country Living Recipe
- 2 1/2 c. Unsifted whole-wheat flour
- 3/4 c. Unsifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Wheat germ
- 2 tsp Baking soda
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 c. (1/2 stick) butter
- 1 3/4 c. Buttermilk

- Heat oven to 400'E Grease a 9- by 5- by 3-inch loaf pan.

- In large bowl, combine flours, sugar, wheat germ, baking soda, and salt.
- With pastry blender or possibly 2 knives, cut in butter till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add in buttermilk and mix lightly with fork just till mix clings together and forms a soft dough; don't ovennix.
- Shape dough into an 8-inch roll and fit into greased loaf pan.

- Bake bread 40 to 45 min or possibly till browned and loaf sounds hollow when gently tapped on top.
- Cold completely on wire rack before serving.
