Tagine-Style Beef and Rice

  1. In a large heavy saucepan or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and garlic; cook until aromatic, about 1 minute.
  3. Add beef; cook, breaking up with wooden spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes.
  4. Drain, if desired.
  5. Stir in allspice, cinnamon, rice and chicken broth; bring to a boil.
  6. Cover and simmer until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender, about 40 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Stir in sweeet peppers, dried fruit, mint and lemon juice.
  9. Top each serving with sunflower seeds.
