Orange Molasses Bread
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 4 cups flour, all-purpose
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 113 cups nuts coarsely chopped
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 2 tablespoons orange zest grated
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening melted
- 3/4 cup molasses unsulphured
- Sif together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add nuts.
- Combine evaporated milk, orange rind, orange juice, shortening, and molasses.
- Add to flour mixture all at once.
- Stir just to blend.
- Turn into a greased and wax-paper lined 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan.
- Bake at 325F (160C) for one hour and 15 minutes.
- Makes 1 loaf.
