Homemade Mincemeat Pie Recipe

  1. 1 c. orange juice 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel 1/4 c. lemon juice 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon grnd nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon grnd mace Pastry for 2 crust 9-inch pie
  2. Cover beef with water.
  3. Simmer, covered, till tender about 2 hrs.
  4. Drain, cold.
  5. Peel, core and cut up apples.
  6. Put beef, apples and suet through coarse blade of food grinder.
  7. In kettle, combine all ingredients EXCEPT pastry.
  8. Cover; simmer 1 hour.
  9. Stir often.
  10. Line 9 inch pie plate with pastry, and fill with 3 c. mincemeat.
  11. Put top crust on; seal edges and cut slits.
  12. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 min.
  13. Freeze remaining mincemeat in 3-c. portions.
  14. Makes 12 c..
