Shepherd's Pie
- 5 potatoes, peeled and halved
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 2 tbsp. milk
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1 lb. regular ground beef
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- Chili sauce
- Cook potatoes in boiling water, until tender; drain.
- Mash with butter and milk; season to taste with salt and pepper.
- In skillet over medium heat, cook beef and onions until meat is browned; pour of fat.
- Stir in garlic, tomato sauce, oregano and Worcestershire; add salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer for 5 minutes to blend flavors.
- Spoon meat mixture into 8 cup (2 L) baking dish; spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
- Recipe may be prepared ahead to this point.
- Bake in 375 F. oven for 35 minutes or until top is golden brown.
- Serve with chili sauce.
- Makes 4 to 5 servings.
