Namkeen
- 250 grams all purpose flour
- 1/2 tbsp carom seeds (i prefer carom seeds over cumin seeds)
- 1 tbsp salted butter/ ghee or vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 tsp salt
- 1 brown sugar (optional: if you want your namkeens sweet)
- 1 Rolling pin and board
- 1 sharp knife
- 1 Food processor (optional for making the dough )
- ~For making the dough: -Pace the flour in a large mixing bowl.
- Add salt, carom seeds and baking powder, mix thoroughly.
- - Now melt the butter/ or ghee and add into the flour, add water(be sure not to add the water too quickly, you don't want your dough to be sticky).
- -start kneading and pounding the dough until it softens.
- The finished dough should be soft in texture and stretchy so that you'll be able to roll it out perfectly.
- Keep it aside and let it rest for 10minutes.
- ~For design: -roughly divide the dough into small size balls.
- -take one ball and roll it with the help of a rolling pin and board.
- -cut the flattened dough into the shape and size you want with the help of a sharp knife.
- ~For frying: Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the namkee till it becomes golden brown and place it in a kitchen paper towel.
- Its easier if you fry them in batches.
- ~For baking: (the healthier version) - Pre-heat oven at 180AC.
- Lightly grease the baking tray with oil and bake them for 15-20 minutes.
- Serve with a hot cup of tea.
- Enjoy!
- *you can also store your namkeens in an air tight container it stays fresh up to 1-2 months.
