Bread and Butter Pickles

  1. Scrub cucumbers but do not peel.
  2. Slice thinly, about 1/8-inch (4 mm.)
  3. thick.
  4. Combine cucumbers, onions and salt.
  5. Cover and let stand for 12 hours, or add 2 trays of ice cubes and let stand for 3 hours.
  6. Drain well.
  7. Combine remaining ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  8. Add drained vegetables and bring to a full boil.
  9. Pack into hot, sterilized jars, covering vegetables with hot liquid.
