Hawaiian Octopus Poke

  1. Pit the avocado, peel and dice.
  2. Put the diced avocado into a bowl and mix with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent discoloring.
  3. Cut the 1/4 onion in half, and slice thinly along the grain.
  4. If you don't like the harshness, soak the sliced onion in water.
  5. Cut up the octopus (whatever size you like).
  6. Put in a bowl and mix with the nam pla and garlic.
  7. Cut the tomato up roughly, and chop a generous amount of green onions.
  8. The octopus will have absorbed a lot of flavor by this time.
  9. Put the avocado, onion, tomato, green onions, sesame oil and white sesame seeds in a bowl and mix.
  10. Taste, and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  11. Chill in the refrigerator.
  12. Once it's plated, you'll feel like you're in Hawaii.
