Arepas (Venezuela) Recipe

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and white cheese.
  3. Stir in sufficient water to make a hard, slightly moist dough.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 5 min.
  5. Divide the dough into 10 pcs and form each piece into a ball.
  6. Flatten the ball slightly.

  8. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  10. Oil a griddle very lightly and hot it over medium heat.
  11. Cook the arepas on the griddle for about 5 min on each side, till a golden crust forms.
  12. Transfer the arepas to a baking sheet and bake 20 to 25 min, turning them several times as they bake.
  13. Serve immediately.
  14. Serve with black beans.
