Kolach (nut roll) - Kolachkis

  1. For pastry, combine cream cheese, butter and vanilla in large bowl.
  2. With pastry blender, cut in flour 1 cup (225 ml) at a time until dough is thoroughly mixed.
  3. Shape into a ball.
  4. Wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  5. For filling, combine all ingredients in large bowl.
  6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 C.).
  7. Divide dough in half.
  8. Keep one half refrigerated.
  9. Sprinkle work surface with confectioners sugar.
  10. Roll dough into 12 inch x 10 inch rectangle, adding sugar as needed.
  11. Spread half the filling evenly over dough.
  12. Cut into 2 inch squares and roll up jelly-roll fashion.
  13. Place seam side down 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  14. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until lightly browned on bottoms.
  15. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
  16. When cool, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
