Irish Raisin Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees and grease a Dutch Oven.
  2. Cream sugar and butter in large bowl.
  3. Add in eggs one at a time.
  4. Add seasonings.
  5. Mix baking soda into the buttermilk.
  6. Alternate adding flour, buttermilk and raisins into mix.
  7. Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours in covered Dutch Oven.
  8. Cake is finished when knife inserted into middle comes out clean.
  9. Optional- pour 1/2 cup of whiskey over cake immediately after removing from oven.
  10. Cake is best when cut after a few days.
