Apple Pie With Pecan Crumble Recipe

  1. Combine 1 1/2 c. flour and the 1/2 tsp salt.
  2. Cut 4 Tbs.
  3. of the margarine and the shortening into the dry ingredients till the mix resembles coarse meal.
  4. Add in water, 1 Tbsp.
  5. at a time, tossing till the dough just holds together.
  6. Wrap in plastic and chill at least 30 min.
  7. Heat the oven to 375 .
  8. Peel the apples and cut into thin slices.
  9. Toss with the lemon juice, cornstarch, 1/3 c. brown sugar, the granulated sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and the nutmeg.
  10. Combine the remaining 1 c. flour, 1/3 c. brown sugar, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon and healthy pinch of salt.
  11. Cut the remaining 6 Tbs of margarine into this mix till crumbly.
  12. Add in pecans.
  13. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured work surface and fit into 9 inch pie pan.
  14. Trim and flute the edges.
  15. Put in the freezer for 5 min to hard.
  16. Fill the pie shell with the apples and sprinkle the crumb mix over the top.
  17. Bake till the crust is golden brown and the filling bubbles.
  18. 60-70 min.
  19. Cover loosely with foil if the topping browns to quickly.
