Turkey Burgers
- 1 slice whole-wheat bread
- 1/4 cup low-fat milk
- 1 pound ground raw turkey
- 1 tablespoon grated onion
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of ground cloves
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 tablespoons safflower oil
- 2 1/2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- Tear the bread into pieces and place in a mixing bowl.
- Add milk, turkey, onion, salt and pepper to taste, cloves and nutmeg.
- Mix well with your hands.
- Form the mixture into eight small patties.
- Make knife cuts on each patty, lengthwise and then crosswise, so they will look as if they were cooked on a grill.
- Sprinkle grated cheese over the patty tops.
- Put oil in a skillet over high heat.
- Reduce to medium and cook burgers 4 minutes on each side.
- Remove burgers from the skillet and set aside on a warm platter.
- Pour out the oil and add butter to the skillet.
- Melt, stirring, over medium heat.
- Add the vinegar and water, stirring and scraping bottom of pan.
- Pour the sauce over the turkey burgers and serve.
