Miranda's mincemeat recipe

  1. Put all the ingredients bar the brandy in a large ovenproof bowl.
  2. Stir well then cover with a clean tea towel and leave in a cool place for the flavours to combine.
  3. Preheat the oven to 120 degrees, remove the tea towel, stir again then cover with foil and put in the oven for about three hours.
  4. Take the mincemeat out of the oven and stir with a wooden spoon, add the brandy and stir again.
  5. Sterilise your jars in a hot dishwasher or wash thoroughly with hot water then put into the oven for 5 mins at 180 degrees.
  6. Spoon the mincemeat into the sterilized jars and keep in a cool place ready for your Christmas baking.
