Butter Cake With Browned Butter Frosting Recipe
- 3/4 c. Sugar
- 3/4 c. Land O Lakes butter, softened
- 4 x Egg yolks
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 c. All-purpose flour
- 2 tsp Baking pwdr
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 3/4 c. Half-and-half
- 1/4 c. Land O Lakes butter
- 3 c. Powdered sugar
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 3 x -(up to)
- 4 Tbsp. Lowfat milk
- Heat oven to 350 .
- In large mixer bowl combine sugar and 3/4 c. butter.
- Beat at medium speed till creamy (1-2 min).
- Add in egg yolks and vanilla.
- Continue beating, scraping bowl often, till well mixed (1 minute).
- Reduce speed to low.
- Beat, gradually adding flour, baking pwdr and salt alternately with half-and-half and scraping bowl often, till well mixed
- (1-2 min).
- Batter will be thick.
- Divide batter between 2 greased and floured 8-inch round cake pans.
- Bake for 20-25 min or possibly till toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cold 5 min, remove from pan.
- Cold completely.
- Meanwhile, in 1-qt saucepan, heat butter over medium-low heat till lightly browned (4-5 min).
- In small mixer bowl combine all frosting ingredients except lowfat milk.
- Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding sufficient lowfat milk for desired spreading consistency.
- Spread frosting between cooled cake layers; frost entire cake.
- Yields 16 servings.
- TIP: Cake can be baked in a 13x9-inch baking pan; bake for 25-30 min.
