Aunt Sarah's Herring Cacciatore
- 1 (1 lb) jar herring in wine sauce
- 1 (3 7/8 ounce) jar pitted black olives, cut up
- 2 tomatoes, cut up
- 1 green pepper, cut in rings
- 1 bermuda onion, cut in rings
- chili sauce, as needed
- Remove the herring from the jar, leaving marinade and onions in jar.
- Fill the jar with chili sauce and mix together well.
- Pour this marinade over the reserved herring which has been put in a bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients except the tomatoes, stir, and let stand for at least 4 hours.
- Put the tomatoes in last.
