Gingerbread cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Prepare baking sheets by spraying with cooking spray or lining with parchment paper
  3. In small bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves until well blended.
  4. In a large bowl beat butter, brown sugar and egg on medium speed until well blended.
  5. Gradually stir in dry ingredients until blended and smooth
  6. Divide dough in half and wrap each half in plastic and let stand at room temperature for 2 hours
  7. Place one portion of dough on a lightly floured surface
  8. Sprinkle flour over dough and rolling pin
  9. Roll dough to scant 1/4 inch thick
  10. Cut out cookies with desired cookie cutter
  11. Space cookies 1 1/2 inches apart
  12. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes.
  13. The lower time will give softer cookies
  14. After cookies cool you can decorate them any way you like.
