Fabulous French Toast

  1. Cut the bread into 3/4 inch-thick slices.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan; add the sugar, stirring to dissolve.
  3. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla, and salt; mix well.
  5. Dip each slice of bread into the milk mixture until well coated.
  6. Place in a flat dish and pour the remaining liquid over the bread.
  7. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  8. In a heavy skillet, fry the bread in very hot bacon grease until golden on both sides.
  9. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugars.
  10. Serve hot with maple syrup.
